Opening Remarks

Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) represents Virginia's 11th Congressional District and is Chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Government Operations Subcommittee which has policy-related oversight over all federal IT spending. Congressman Connolly is the sponsor of bipartisan legislation that would statutorily authorize the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP). In addition to codifying FedRAMP, the FedRAMP Reform Act would promote the use of Commercial-Off-the-Shelf solutions, promote the use of automation to process FedRAMP applications and encourage agencies to accept reciprocal Authority to Operate standards approved by other federal agencies.

After nearly three decades as a consultant for PwC Management Consulting and IBM and another six years as CIO for SunTrust Banks, Anil Cheriyancame out of retirement earlier this year, drawn by the bold mission to help the federal government make the lives of our citizens better. Cheriyan drove large-scale business and technology transformation throughout his career, breaking down silos and standing up new digital, data, and operational frameworks. Now he is leading GSA’s Technology Transformation Services and finds himself at the center of the massive effort to modernize federal IT. In this keynote, Cheriyan will set the vision for his organization and draw insightful parallels between conditions for success in government and industry based on his decades of private-sector experiences.

Suzette Kent serves as the Federal Chief Information Officer at the Office of Management and Budget. Ms. Kent is an industry leader of large-scale business transformation using technology, for the world’s most complex organizations. She most recently served as a principal at EY and has been a partner at Accenture, consulting president at Carreker Corporation and a Managing Director at JPMorgan.
