GPO

John L. Hannan serves as Chief Information Security Officer in the Office of Information Technology and Systems at the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO). Mr. Hannan joined GPO in March 2004 as Director of the IT Security Division, and directs the agency's information security program under the office of the CIO. He is the technical leader for the· GPO Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) program, and represents GPO on the Federal PKI Policy Authority, the Legislative Branch Cybersecurity Working Group, and the Legislative Branch CISO Council.

Prior to joining GPO, Mr. Hannan worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta for over 12 years in various management and technical positions in the Information Security area. He led the Bank's Information Security department for three years, and prior to that led a nationwide Federal Reserve center for Cryptographic Development and Support for three years. He has extensive experience in PKI and cryptographic systems for secure web and Internet applications.

Previously, he worked as a software engineer for IBM, and as a system engineer in the Shuttle Launch Support Engineering Division for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center.

He received his bachelor's and master's of science degrees, both in Industrial Engineering, from the Georgia Institute of Technology. In addition, he completed the Executive Development program at the University of California-Berkeley. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). A native of Rock Island, Illinois, he is married and has two children.
