On October 16, 2017, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued Binding Operational Directive (BOD) 18-01. This mandate requires that all civilian federal agencies upgrade their email security, including the implementation of DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) for email authentication within a strict timeline of 12 months.
Given the timelines outlined, agencies will need to navigate the implementation of DMARC efficiently. The first deadline is to provide an Agency Plan of Action, which is due November 15, 2017. Proofpoint, a leading cyber security and email security provider, and founding contributor to the DMARC specification, has a comprehensive toolkit to aid the path to compliance within the required deadlines, and offers ano-cost assessment to all entities who would like to become DMARC compliant.
