Carahsoft Geospatial Quarterly Newsletter

The following newsletter summarizes notable news in the government geospatial industry, current events, and provides access to informative and educational events.

The Netflix for Geospatial Imagery

In a world of ever growing data, there became a need to normalize disparate datasets into a common view without the need to convert the data or perform costly system integration. Terra Pixel helps users provide Open Geospatial interfaces to raster, vector, and video.

Learn how Terra Pixel supports decision makers in capitalizing on mission critical information that can help save lives and secure our country.

This interactive booklet will guide you through streaming geospatial information with Terra Pixel's imagery streaming service.

GIS and Telematics are the Foundation of Florida Keys Mosquito Control Technology

For over a century, Florida has been battling infestations of disease-carrying insects. The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District was established to control the mosquito populations in the state. The District deploys a fleet of land vehicles, boats, helicopters, and airplanes to apply insecticides on the numerous islands comprising the Keys.

Their main targets are the handful of species known for spreading disease such as the Zika and West Nile Viruses, Dengue Fever, and Chikungunya.

As spray applications became more complicated due to protection of environmentally sensitive areas, the District turned to the CompassCom Mobile Resource Management (MRM) as one solution to assist in ensuring adulticides and larvicides are applied correctly.

Celebrate Infrastructure Week 2017

It’s no secret that the state of infrastructure in the US has a lot of room for improvement. The American Society of Civil Engineers recently scored America’s Infrastructure as a D+. It’s time to change that. Infrastructure Week is a national advocacy week to promote investing in US roads, rails, pipes, and ports.

View this brief 2-minute video to learn about some of the strategic infrastructure projects Autodesk has created over the last year.

TomTom City is a free website for every-day use for city inhabitants and their governments to see traffic, plan routes, and share changes in the road network. TomTom adds benefits to that: unique traffic layers, monitoring roads with no additional investment and sharing road changes with the largest driver community! Working together, TomTom and cities can make the lives of the cities' citizens better by decreasing congestion.

This will allow you to realize the future of traffic management: Measure, Inform, and Guide your driver, to Influence Traffic and minimize congestion in your city.

Accurate ground control is required to georeferenced airborne and spaceborne images. The production of ortho-photgrammetric data requires ground control that is traditionally provided as Ground Control Points (GCPs) by GNSS measurements in the field. However, it can be difficult to acquire accurate GCP’s due to required turn-around time, high costs, or impossible access.

This article reviews how Remotely Sensed Ground Control Points and high accuracy satellites can be produced to a sub-meter quality depending on certain parameters and circumstances.
